The part of a home passport photo that usually fails
Most home-taken passport photos fail on the background: a wall that is cream rather than white, a shadow of the head on the wall, a light switch in the corner. This page removes all of it and puts a flat white or light blue behind the person, the same value in every pixel, with no shadow — a shadow on the background is one of the listed reasons for rejection.
Taking the photo so this works
Stand a pace or two away from the wall, so your shadow falls behind you rather than next to your head. Face a window for even light. Keep loose hair off the face. Take the photo at the camera’s full resolution; the model finds hair better with more pixels to look at.
Limits
- The background only. Size, head position and face lighting are not checked or changed here.
- Very fine flyaway hair may come back softened. Some offices prefer that to a halo; if yours does not, brush the edge.
Questions people ask
- Is it safe to do a passport photo here?
- Your photo is not uploaded anywhere: the model runs in this page and the result is written to your own disk. That matters more for an ID photo than for most pictures.
- Will the photo be accepted?
- This page fixes the background, which is the most common reason a home-made photo is rejected. It does not check the rest — head size, eye position, expression, light on the face — and each passport office sets its own rules. Check the official rules for your country.
- White or light blue?
- Follow the form. Where it says only plain light background, white is the safest. Light blue helps where the person has very pale hair or a white top.
- Does it crop to passport size?
- No. Change the background here at full size, then crop and resize to the size the form asks for. Cropping first leaves the model fewer pixels to find the hair in.
