Remove the background from a logo

The flat background goes, the counters stay, and the logo comes back trimmed, padded and at every size it is used at.

Drop a logo on a flat background. The background goes, the holes inside the letters stay, and you get it trimmed, padded and at the sizes a logo is used at.

Nothing to download: this one is plain arithmetic on the pixels, done in the page, so it runs at once.

A key that knows where the outside is

The background of a logo file is the colour that touches the edge of the picture. The inside of a letter is the same colour, but it does not touch the edge — it is enclosed by the letter. This page removes the colour only where it can be reached from the border without crossing the design, which is exactly the distinction a logo needs and exactly the one a segmentation model does not make.

Along the outline, where a pixel is part letter and part background, the background colour is calculated out of the pixel and its transparency set to match. The edge keeps its anti-aliasing and the logo can sit on a dark page with no pale fringe.

Limits

  1. A logo whose outer shape is the same colour as its background, touching the border, will be read as background there.
  2. Photographed logos — on a shirt, a sign, a mug — are not flat; use the object model for those.

Questions people ask

Why not use the AI background remover on a logo?
A model looks for a subject and fills it in, so the inside of an O or an A often comes back solid. A logo is almost always on one flat colour, and for one flat colour a key is exact: this page removes only the background connected to the border, so enclosed shapes keep their own colour or transparency.
What if my logo is not on a flat background?
The page measures the border first and tells you. If fewer than nine in ten border pixels are one colour, a key would leave patches, and it points you to the object model instead, which asks before downloading.
What is in the size ZIP?
The trimmed logo at its own size; 32 px for a browser tab, 180 px for a phone home screen, 512 px for an app or web-app icon, all square and padded; a 400 px avatar with enough padding to survive a round crop; and all-black and all-white versions for light and dark pages.
Can I make a one-colour version?
Yes. 'All black', 'All white' or 'One colour' replaces every visible pixel with that colour and keeps the edge's transparency, so the anti-aliasing survives.
