White background for product photos

The product is cut out, centred on a square of pure white, and sized to fill the frame the way a listing expects.

Drop a product photo. It comes back square, centred on pure white, with the product filling 85% of the frame.

Nothing is uploaded. The first cut-out downloads a model once (84 MB); after that it works offline.

What a listing checks

A marketplace main image is judged on three things this page controls: a pure white background, the product centred, and the product taking up most of the frame. A product photographed on a table fails all three — a grey background, off to one side, small in a wide frame. The page fixes all three in one pass: cut out with the object model, find the product’s outline from the cut-out, and place it in the middle of a square at the fill you set.

The preview shows the cut-out in the photo’s own frame so the brushes line up with what you are touching; the downloaded file is the square. The line under the download button states the fill it will use.

Shadows and white products

A white mug on a white background has no edge. Turn on the shadow: a soft contact shadow under the product gives it an outline and a surface to stand on, without tinting the background. Most marketplaces allow a slight natural shadow on the main image; check yours if you sell somewhere strict.

Limits

  1. Glass bottles and clear packaging. The object model keeps them solid; the label will look right, the transparency will not.
  2. Products photographed on a surface of the same colour. The model has to guess the base; check the bottom edge before saving.
  3. Marketplace rules change and differ by category. This page produces the common case; it does not check a listing against a specific marketplace.

Questions people ask

What fill should I use?
85% is a safe default: the product's longer side takes 85% of the square, which is what Amazon asks for as a minimum. Go higher for small items that would otherwise look lost, lower for tall bottles shown in wide thumbnails.
What size is the square?
Large enough for the product to fill it without being enlarged more than twice its photographed size, and never under 500 or over 4000 pixels. A good phone photo gives 2000 pixels or more, which is what zoom on most marketplaces needs.
Can I do the whole catalogue at once?
Yes. The bulk page takes a folder's worth of photos, applies the white background and the square frame to each, and gives back one ZIP.
Is this safe for products that are not launched yet?
Yes. The photos are processed in this page and are not sent anywhere, so nothing about an unreleased product leaves your computer.
